Earth Day 2008Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA
Early May
DescriptionVirginia Beach Parks and Recreation & Virginia Beach Clean Community Commission invite you to go green at Earth Day 2008 on Sunday, May 4, 2008 at Mount Trashmore Park (one of the nation’s first recycled landfills) in Virginia Beach from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm. Free and open to the public with ample onsite parking, this family-friendly event strives to say goodbye to those granola stereotypes of the environmentally conscious and invites you to refresh your approach to making our world a healthier place with exhibits and demonstrations about organic foods, eco-friendly products, fair-trade methods, sustainability and plenty more.
With over 50 interactive exhibits and activities, this event will give you the chance to discover and explore effective, convenient and cutting-edge ways to green your lifestyle. Recycle your old computers, electronics and other related peripherals (like ink cartridges) with our eCycling event (Virginia Beach residents only), register for our low-cost Rain Barrel Workshop, and get behind the wheel of a Smart Car – the smart fortwo – the popular European-designed “micro compact car” which has recently available for purchase in the United States.
Visit with theme-specific exhibits and demonstrations on how to reduce your carbon footprint, categorized by “You & the Environment,” “Home & Yard,” and “Auto.” Learn about eco-friendly car maintenance tips, the benefits of using compact-fluorescent light bulbs, environmentally-sound techniques applied to your garden, and so much more!
We’ll also be hosting a tree seedling giveaway alongside interesting and educational exhibits including wild animals as part of the Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation “Park it … Outdoors!” program, alternative fuel vehicles, interactive environmental exhibits - like the Virginia Aquarium’s touch tank and “Ocean in Motion” trailer, a Natural Gas Monster Fire Truck and more!
Live musical entertainment and special “Mind, Body & Spirit” demonstrations are featured along with children’s activities and festival foods available for purchase.
This event is brought to you by Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation & Virginia Beach Clean Community Commission in conjunction with Coca-Cola, Bank@LANTEC and Valpak, along with event sponsors Virginia Natural Gas and radio station Eagle 97.
