Haddonfield Doll DaysHaddonfield, New Jersey, USA
Early November
DescriptionWith a reputation as one of the most successful annual hobby shows that regularly attracts more than 50 vendors from several states and several hundred serious collectors. These vendors and buyers alike save the first Saturday in November for this event.
Haddonfield's Historical Society decided to dust off its extensive collection of historical dolls and showcase them in a special exhibit "sometime in November." The astute manager of the Haddonfield Visitors' Center introduced Kingsway Learning Center to the Historical Society - and Doll Day in Historic Haddonfield was born!
To make this a true community-wide event, Kingsway and the Historical Society set out to involve merchants and other non-profits and succeeded in scheduling:
The Doll Hospital (Doll Shop of Haddonfield), A doll appraiser at The Owl's Tale antique shop, Political Doll collections on display at the Haddonfield Library (modeled after Monticello), Doll books showcased at local bookstores, Barbara Wrightman of the Philadelphia Black Doll Museum, Bellezza Mia Doll Shop has a large selection of Dolls for sale, Doll House and historical doll display at Historical Society, International dolls on display at the Visitors' Center and more.
With so many activities spread out across a one-mile radius, the committee sought a clever way to transport participants and steer them to participating sites. The solution? A participant-sponsored old-fashioned trolley, dubbed for the day "The Dolly Trolley".
By proclamation, the Mayor and Board of Commissioners of Haddonfield have declared the first Saturday in November to be "DOLL DAY" in Historic Haddonfield.
