ICA FolkFestVictoria, British Columbia, Canada
Late June
DescriptionAs the single largest outdoor event on Vancouver Island, FolkFest is a multicultural arts festival that brings together artists from all over the world through music, dance, theatre, visual and culinary arts. For nine spectacular days during the first week of July over 125,000 residents and visitors enjoy a myriad of performances from over 1,200 artists. Expect sights, sounds, and aromas to delight your senses: the swirling colours of a gypsy dance troupe, the thunder of a Taiko drum, the insistent beckoning of a spicy curry. Highlighting the festival each year is its Canada Day Concert & Fireworks, attracting over 60,000 people to the Inner Harbour. This coming summer FolkFest will celebrate its 30th anniversary of bringing the community together through celebrating cultural diversity.
PerformersLocated in the heart of downtown Victoria, nine days of activities are held in a variety of venues, with the Inner Harbour location acting as the central hub. Largely a family oriented event, FolkFest features simultaneous performances on two music stages, a theatre & dance stage, a culinary arts demonstration stage, a three day International Film Showcase, a one day Electronic Music Festival, plus participatory workshops and instructional sessions with visiting artists.
