At noon on her birthday, after the changing of the guard, the queen appears on the balcony of the palace with her immediate family to greet the thousands of well-wishers in the square below. A traditional crowd demand for encore appearances usually makes the royal family appear several times. The Royal Guard is dressed in ceremonial uniforms, the Music Corps plays traditional celebration songs, and a parade follows.
