DescriptionThe City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs presents the 2009 Atlanta Jazz Festival in Historic Grant Park. The Festival is held in May, and is a 31-day schedule of events that features local, national and international jazz artists in restaurants and concert venues throughout the Metro Atlanta area. Culminating during Memorial Day weekend, May 23 & 24, the Festival will feature show-stopping performances on the mainstage in Grant Park. The Festival is produced by the City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs and a majority of events are FREE and open to the public.
The Festival is regarded as one of the Country’s largest free jazz festivals and according to Mayor Shirley Franklin is “one of the city’s proudest traditions.” The Atlanta Jazz Festival provides the City with an opportunity to unify Atlanta’s diverse population, to celebrate Atlanta’s rich cultural heritage, and to promote tourism.
MISSION
It is the mission of the Atlanta Jazz Festival to expose and entertain a diverse audience of Jazz aficionados, young Jazz enthusiasts and musical artists to the rich heritage and variety of Jazz as an authentic form of traditional music.
