DescriptionExposé des motifs
The various studies conducted by national and international organizations have confirmed in their assessments the interests of tourists for cultural, popular and festive events. 360 Communication and their partners wish to give a greater dimension to cultural, festive and participating events which could very quickly impose themselves as meeting dates for saint-Martin, not only regionally but internationally as well. Thus, 360 Communication has embarked upon finding out how best to make such events more ambitious, attractive and original.
A great ambition: The Caribbean Week of Saint-Martin
The idea of a cultural festival in Saint-Martin was born in 2008 after a basic consideration of the issues regarding Caribbean integration for Saint-Martin and regarding the developing of a feeling of belonging that could be shared by all. Considering the complexity of this matter and the particular context of this project, we chose to call on a consultant with the experience cultural engineering and mediation and who also knew something about regional cooperation.
What are the stakes of the Caribbean Week on Saint-Martin?
The economic dimension of the festival can be felt through our concern to make a tourism cultural event. We wish to attract for its first edition a little over a twenty thousand participants, who would have come from the entire Caribbean, France and North America, who would stay 6 days on the island. These would become, during and after the event, into tourists in need of hotel rooms, restaurants, transportation and leisure service providers (water sports, ecotourism…).
One needs to bear in mind that the direct economic impact of tourism of the festival whether in the short or the long term, remains an essential priority. To this effect, we aim particularly the social groups with financial ability (business community, business owners, self employed, upper management staff, intellectuals…) who can afford a budget that will vary between 600€ and 3.500€. With regards to lodging, our strategy will consist in diversifying the proposed offers (3 and 4 stars hotels, bed and breakfast, seasonal rental…).
The characteristics of the participants targeted for this festival show an inclination to using the services offered on Saint-Martin. Island of the Lesser Caribbean, Saint-Martin has inherited of a varied heritage with a multitude of natural richness (beaches, lagoons, country side areas…), a rich human variety (different ethnies, strong local customs and traditions).
This cultural and geographic specificity enables one to promote and offer a very diverse tourism on a rather reduce land surface area. In this context, the Caribbean Week can and should be considered as an event that structures an eventful form of tourism, not neglecting its strong sides in gastronomy and even sport tourism which can all help local development.
We have estimated the economic returns to a little over tree million euros.
